pieces

abstracts by heather jones

“Pieces” is a combination of new and old work by DC-based abstract painter Heather Jones. Heather’s creative practice is driven by intuitive, therapeutic play with acrylic paint, creating hard-edged abstractions that serve as visual containers of the artist’s past experiences. The paintings metaphorically trap these moments inside self-contained, playful environments on canvas. The rudimentary shapes and colors that make up Jones’ work are a nod to idyllic notions of innocence and the sentimentality we attach to the past when revisiting it.

"small pops" by scott troxel

Scott Troxel draws on the aesthetics of bygone technology and the forward-looking designs of the Atomic Age and mid-century modernism to make dynamic, retro-futurist wooden sculptures that evoke nostalgia as much as they look to the future.

In his latest body of work termed “Small Pops” (2023-2024), Troxel focuses on smaller, chunky, minimalist-inspired work that taps into his mid-century modern sensibility. The “Small Pops” Series uses 2” deep solid wood combined with bold color palettes, wood grain, and sometimes surface textures.
